Heritage Timeline

Formed in 1972, Solan district was created by merging the princely states of Baghat, Nalagarh, and several others. Solan town was the capital of the Baghat Princely State. The British established a major cantonment area here in the 19th century, leading to its development as an educational and industrial hub. It is home to Asian's oldest brewery, Mohan Meakin, established in 1855. Its strategic position on the Kalka-Shimla highway and the 1902 railway route transformed it into a vital commerce center.
